From March 24th to April 7th I was happy to be in Bangkok again, to work and make music with, amongst others Trio Abstrakt. We gave a lecture-performance of in competence at PGVIM on the invitation of Anothai Nitibhon (i.e., I gave the lecture and Trio Abstrakt did the performance). It was really great to perform in the wooden box concert hall, equipped with a Genelec immersive audio system. This was all being planned when I was last there in 2018.
We also gave workshops on improvisation and new music performance at PGVIM and then at the Goethe Institute in Bangkok where the Trio gave a stunning concert intermingled with improvisations. I got to play with all involved, including two groups of students, but also a fantastic performer on a favourite of mine, the Khaen, a south-east Asian mouth organ made of bamboo.
Anothai and I also agreed a Memorandum of Understanding between PGVIM and the Folkwang University of the Arts. We hope to bring together students of both institutions for intercultural exchange and much music-making in the near future.
