makin' a paraphlagiarism
the task
- choose a quotation relevant to art and/or music
- it should be from a referenced source
- the language is not so important: it will be quoted on the website in the original
- edit or rewrite it so that it's simple and clear, colloquial even
- this is the paraphlage
- this should be in English, so it's understandable to as many people as possible
- in a DAW, combine/sequence/mix/process
- a recorded statement of the paraphlage
- this may appear at any point in the short piece, but only once
- one or more moments of pure synthesis
- one or more field recordings
- empty of any obvious significance other than the capturing of an environment or vibe
- these may continue throughout the piece or not, as you wish
- optional: one or more sounds of your choosing
- e.g. material from or part of one of your own musical works, to extend the paraphrase/quotation/plagiarism theme
- ideally the audio would be created for an immersive environment,
e.g. ambisonics, but for the video a stereo version would be rendered
- whether binaural stereo (for headphones) or normal stereo (for headphones and speakers) is up to you, but the choice should be indicated upon submission
- a recorded statement of the paraphlage
- produce a simple video from a single image
- this project's
make-para-vid
script is ideal for making videos from an image (ask Michael about this or leave it to him) - include the original quotation, the paraphlage, and the original author in the video's metadata (the comment field)
- plus the title and author of the paraphlagiarism (generally you but Michael could also do this for you if your English isn't advanced enough)
- and of course any credits for the image/video
- this project's
- the title should be of the form #paraphlagiarism 0001
- with increasing decimal numbers as the series progresses
- so we have a maximum of 9999 paraphlagiarisms
- ask Michael for your unique number
- this should be watermarked (or similarly ever-present) on the video
- along with your artist name
- with increasing decimal numbers as the series progresses
- duration should be < 1 min.
- pass the video to Michael so he can post the paraphlagiarism to
the internet / social media, adding as a comment the original statement
- with a reference and perhaps a link
- the paraphlagiarism will also appear on Michael's dedicated web page
