{"id":2074,"date":"2025-10-02T16:32:36","date_gmt":"2025-10-02T14:32:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/michael-edwards.org\/wp\/?p=2074"},"modified":"2025-10-02T16:42:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-02T14:42:14","slug":"the-last-leg-recording-who-says-this-saying-its-me-in-portugal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michael-edwards.org\/wp\/?p=2074","title":{"rendered":"the last leg: recording &#8220;who says this, saying it&#8217;s me?&#8221; in Portugal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From August 31st to September 7th I was in Aveiro, Portugal, to record the last piece for a release of my music for saxophone and electronics with <a href=\"http:\/\/henriqueportovedo.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Henrique Portovedo<\/a>.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/michael-edwards.org\/work.php?workid=261\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>who says this, saying it&#8217;s me?<\/em><\/a> was written in 2009 for <a href=\"https:\/\/marcusweiss.net\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marcus Weiss<\/a> but was also taken up (bravely) and <a href=\"https:\/\/sumtone.bandcamp.com\/album\/slippery-chicken\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recorded<\/a> in 2012 by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.antongirolami.it\/index_en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gianpaolo Antongirolami<\/a>. It&#8217;s for tenor saxophone and four-channel sound files. It&#8217;s also really bloody hard, but once Henrique&#8217;s hands recover from all the awkward movements jumping from one multiphonic to another (the score is <a href=\"https:\/\/michael-edwards.org\/stopen\/michael\/who-says-score.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online<\/a>) I hope we can both consider it a worthwhile undertaking. As it was the last recording we had to do for our upcoming release, it had to be done (the project has been on the boil since 2016 and we&#8217;ve made recordings in Edinburgh, Essen, and now Aveiro).
